New Up & Coming Artist: Mark Battles

My buddy Mark Downey hit me up with this afternoon telling me to check out this youngin’s new mixtape “Good Mornin America” (Click to Download) and I’m so glad he did. This guy deserves the spotlight. Born and raised in Indianapolis, Mark Battles’ success is driven by his desire to represent his hometown.
According to his Facebook page, his influences include artists such as Eminem, Tupac, Jay-Z, Big Pun, DMX, LL Cool J, and Drake. Mark describes his own style as not only “modernized” hip hop, but also “the essence of real hip hop”.
Officially launching his career in 2005, Mark Battles has chosen the route of establishing a new name and face that the hip hop industry will acknowledge. With the pressure of giving Indianapolis a good name, his plan for success in this regime is to expand his brand Fly America and “take it as far as possible.” With this in mind, Mark’s plan to take over the internet consists of media outreach through [hip hop] blog sites, social networking, and by utilizing YouTube.

Flo Rida feat. Taio Cruz- Hangover
Pretty boring track in my opinion, but what Flo Rida song is exciting. I think we are looking at a future radio hit though, so there must be some people out there that like this music. A snippet leaked a while back that featured a sample of Avicii’s “Levels”, but I guess Flo Rida never got the OK with that sample. He doesn’t deserve to rap over Avicii.

DMX Official Statement On Arrest
DMX was arrested yesterday, and his publicist released an official statement about the arrest…
“This situation is being blown way out of proportion. DMX was in jail for approximately 1 hour. Also the report given by Sgt. Rudy Lujan of AHP, was exaggerated according to the people present. DMX does admit to driving at 85mph but not nearly at the speed that was suggested in the report. In response to the constant harassment by Arizona law enforcement, DMX says this, “God brought me to Phoenix and I’m not going to let no man run me and my family from our home!” Despite being under a microscope, DMX is doing everything he can to put his past criminal charges behind him and focus on music. – Domenick Nati”
