What better way to release new music than in the form of a New Years Eve concert recap video. Pretty Lights did just that with the release of his new song, “The Day Is Gone.” The video below captures parts of Pretty Lights’ sold out New Years Eve concert at Roseland Ballroom in NYC. Pretty Lights starts the single off with some piano chords into an old school sounding vocal sample. Derek then adds some percussion, wobbles, guitar sounding chords, and a bass heavy dubstep drop that correlates with the visuals. Listen to Pretty Lights new single, “The Day Is Gone,” below.
Mashup artist, Bruneaux, released his highly anticipated third full length album, Creature Of Habit. The project really embodies Bruneaux’s love for old school music. He really took it back to the ’90s and ’00s on Creature Of Habit. Bruneaux’s revived some classic vocals and instrumentals through his 262 samples used in his new mashup album, Creature Of Habit. This album is a must download! Stream Creature Of Habit in its entirety and download it below.

Tayyib Ali recently dropped his anticipated new mixtape, Keystone State of Mind 2. Tayyib Ali hasn’t released a complete solo project since his 2011 mixtape, Keystone State of Mind. The Visionary Music Group rapper is officially back with a follow up mixtape featuring 16 brand new tracks and 2 tracks that were released as singles over the last year. Keystone State of Mind 2 features production from Statik Selectah, 2Astronauts, 6ix, Jahlil Beats, and more. With only one feature from Rockie Fresh on a previously released record, Tayyib holds his own throughout the new project. Keystone State of Mind 2 shows Tayyib’s progression as an artist. The project is compiled of positive and laid back music. It is good to hear the young Philly rapping going over a wide array of dope beats. Listen to the opening track from Keystone State of Mind 2 below and download the mixtape. You can stream the mixtape in its entirety here.

Dutch duo Showtek released a new two song EP through Steve Aoki’s Dim Mark label. The Crunk/Slowdown EP leans towards more of a electro-house sound over that hardstyle sound that we have become accustomed to from Showtek. Showtek’s first offering on the Crunk/Showdown EP, “Crunk,” features loud vocals about partying and drinking over simple chords. The track then builds up into an intense drop, a bridge, and then a computerized sample. Play “Crunk” loud at your next party. The second track, “Slow Down”, starts off with a large build up and then bridges unexpectedly. The track then slows down into an electro chord progression that makes up for a festival hit. Both “Crunk” and “Slow Down” are high energy tracks and do not disappoint. Purchase/stream the EP in its entirety below.

Flux still can’t stop. The UK dubstep producer has finally delivered his highly anticipated EP Blow The Roof and it exceeds my expectations. The project is compiled of eight eclectic tracks with features from Sway & P and Childish Gambino. Each track is unique and massive is in its own way and that is especially hard to believe in a genre that is defined by Wub Wub Wub and is over saturated with bass-heavy drops that sometimes sound alike. I’ll let the music speak for itself here, stream the whole project and be sure to purchase the EP in its entirety below. Enjoy and Blow The Roof Off when listening to this! The band that I stumbled upon in 2009 from the iTunes free download of the week is back with a new offering entitled “Miracle Mile.” The indie rock band does not disappoint on their refreshing new single.
A welcoming piano intro with backing drums open up Cold War Kids latest single. Lead singer Nathan Willet comes in soon after adding to the feel good vibe of the track with his high energy vocals. I’ll definitely have this song on repeat during the weekend. “Miracle Mile” will reside on Cold War Kids forthcoming album, Dear Miss Lonely Hearts, due out April 2nd.

Skrillex is starting off the new year with an eclectic sounding project entitled Leaving EP. The EP consists of three songs that all have their own unique sound. “The Reason” is an electronic influenced track while “Scary Bolly Dub” stays true to Skrillex’s WUBWUBWUB sounding dubstep drops. He’s been playing “Scary Bolly Dub” in his sets for ages, so the remix doesn’t seem sound all that new. Lastly, “Leaving”, the title track off of the project has more of an ambient sound and relaxed vibe. Overall, Skrillex delivered a solid project to start off 2013.
