Drake- “Look What You’ve Done” Take Care (R.I.P To Drake’s Grandmother)

“…my father living in Memphis now he can’t come this way,
Over some minor charges and child support that just wasn’t paid.
Damn, boo-hoo, sad story, black american dad story”

As you may already know, Drake’s sophomore album Take Care leaked on Sunday night. The album exceeded all my expectations; it really is amazing. I highly recommend pre-ordering it.  One of my favorite songs on the album is “Look What You’ve Done”. This song is a dedication to his family, and how they helped him become who he is today. The instrumental is merely piano music with no drums or beat, which makes the song very emotional and beautiful. On the first verse of the track, Drake talks about his mother and their relationship, including an explanation of a fight they had. The second verse is dedicated to his uncle (or aunt, we still don’t know for sure); he talks about how he encouraged Drake to always follow his dreams. The song ends with either his mother or grandma talking about him (there is much debate about this across the internet, but I think it’s his grandmother)  This is one of the realest songs you’ll hear in hip-hop; Drake shows us once again how great he is at connecting emotions to his music.

Read the lyrics to “Look What You’ve Done” on Rap Genius.

At the end of this song there’s a voicemail from Drake’s Grandmother that says.

Hi Aubrey, I’m here sitting with my son having a little talk
And he knows how to get in touch with you now
To let you know how grateful I am for your help
In keeping me in this, in this comfortable place
All I can say, Aubrey, is I remember the good times we had together
And the times I used to look after you
And I still have wonderful feelings about that
So God bless you, and I hope I’ll see you…

Music Video: Logic- “Young Sinatra III”

Logic never disappoints.  If there is one artist that I could see having a breakthrough year in 2012, it is definitely Logic.  Logic works hard as hell and constantly delivers great music.  He raps over the dope Milkbone beat ‘Keep It Real’, that samples Nas’s “Life’s A Bitch”.   “Young Sinatra III” has that classic hip hop feel; it seems like I already know most of the lyrics to this single from watching him spit the a cappella of this track back in BrooklynNYC, and his UStreams.  Let me tell you, he does not disappoint lyrically on “Young Sinatra III”.

“While you in an alley playing dice, I’m in a yacht contemplating plans for the next diamond heist.”

Logic is starting 2012 off amazingly with this release, and is setting the bar pretty damn high for other upcoming artists right now.  Visionary Music Group has this year on lock.  Their music videos always tend to be ill and they are honestly doing everything right.  GRVTY directed “Young Sinatra III” and he did a hell of a job.  Check out our interview with Logic here and enjoy his new music video after the jump.  The mp3 will be released after the video reaches a certain amount of views.  Make sure to like Logic on Facebook and follow him on twitter.

UPDATE: You guys are fast.  Logic’s new music video has already hit over 100k views in less than 48 hours.  The mp3 download is below, enjoy!   Logic is the present, the past and the future of hip hop.

Schoolboy Q feat. A$AP Rocky- ‘Hands On The Wheel’

Schoolboy Q just dropped his highly anticipated sophomore album, Habits & Contradictions, a couple of days ago. I recommend copping it on iTunes immediately; Q has improved a lot since his debut and delivers a complete album here.  After a few listens, I must say there isn’t one song that I don’t like and I don’t say that often.  TDE is stepping it up this year, look out for Kendrick’s debut album, Good Kid in a Mad City, which is going to shake the rap game up. Now back to the track I planned on posting…ASAP Rocky’s name should be familiar to you considering how his name has been all over the web for some time now. The Harlem native dropped his first mixtape LiveLoveA$AP in December and since then he has been getting a lot of love.  He hopped on a track off of Q’s sophomore album entitled ‘Hands On The Wheel’.  This collaboration includes a sample of Lissie’s cover of Cudi’s ‘Pursuit of Happiness’ and dope verses from both rappers.  Download the track below and make sure to buy Habits & Contradictions here.

Dirty South and Thomas Gold feat. Kate Elsworth – ‘Eyes Wide Open’ (Radio Rip)

It is no lie that both Dirty South and Thomas Gold had an amazing year in 2011, but it looks like they may just have a better one in ’12. They definitely are on to a hell of a start with ‘Eyes Wide Open’.  This new collaboration features great vocals from Kate Elsworth and a sick drop.  ’Eyes Wide Open’ will be released on January 23rd. Spotted on m2i.

50 Cent – ‘Girls Go Wild’ (Feat. Jeremih)

Some new 50 Cent you could listen to through your new SMS Audio Headphones (Raffi). 50 Cent is on some other type of flow. I personally think its a pretty good song, others say its not so good. Make the decision yourself.

Tyrese Feat. T.I., Big Sean & Busta Rhymes– ‘Fireworks (Remix)’

Back in the beginning of November we heard a remix to ‘Fireworkz’ that featured T.I., but now we have new verses from Big Sean and Busta Rhymes on the track.  Open Invitation is out now.  Oh and just from listening to Busta’s verse I gotta say I think Justin was pushing it when he made his comment about Busta’s flow in our Logic Review/Interview, but hey it was still a great read ha! And I can’t fight with a fellow admins opinion.  Busta and Twista will always have the fastest flow.  Stream/dl the new remix below.
