Drake- “Look What You’ve Done” Take Care (R.I.P To Drake’s Grandmother)

by Anthony Porcelli

“…my father living in Memphis now he can’t come this way,
Over some minor charges and child support that just wasn’t paid.
Damn, boo-hoo, sad story, black american dad story”

As you may already know, Drake’s sophomore album Take Care leaked on Sunday night. The album exceeded all my expectations; it really is amazing. I highly recommend pre-ordering it.  One of my favorite songs on the album is “Look What You’ve Done”. This song is a dedication to his family, and how they helped him become who he is today. The instrumental is merely piano music with no drums or beat, which makes the song very emotional and beautiful. On the first verse of the track, Drake talks about his mother and their relationship, including an explanation of a fight they had. The second verse is dedicated to his uncle (or aunt, we still don’t know for sure); he talks about how he encouraged Drake to always follow his dreams. The song ends with either his mother or grandma talking about him (there is much debate about this across the internet, but I think it’s his grandmother)  This is one of the realest songs you’ll hear in hip-hop; Drake shows us once again how great he is at connecting emotions to his music.

At the end of this song there’s a voicemail from Drake’s Grandmother that says.

Hi Aubrey, I’m here sitting with my son having a little talk
And he knows how to get in touch with you now
To let you know how grateful I am for your help
In keeping me in this, in this comfortable place
All I can say, Aubrey, is I remember the good times we had together
And the times I used to look after you
And I still have wonderful feelings about that
So God bless you, and I hope I’ll see you…

The songs definitely about his mother, Drake frequently mentions his mother in interviews and talks about how close their relationship is, he even mentions her in the song Successful. He also talks about his mother being sick in this song.

It’s his grandma at the end because she says she’s sitting with her son (drake’s dad) and he can get in touch with drake now. Also his mom isn’t that old.

    verse 1 – mom
    verse 2 – uncle
verse 3 (the phone call) – grandma (his dads mom)

Definitely not it’s about his mum , uncle and grandma at the end
But I see where ur comin frm coz he does mention being in love with 2 different girls but those were just probably referencing to the time he was with them at that particular age or phase of his life :)

Listen to the lyrics… He says “even though your my dads sister” I wonder how that works on a family tree. Who does that make this person to Drake? I wonder.

the lyric your talking about is actually : “Know that I’m your sister’s kid”
which means that he could be talking about his Aunt OR Uncle.

Also, in the same verse he says “it worked out, man”
I doubt his Aunt is a man.

The first verse is deff. about his mother. – “You get the operation you dream of, and I finally send you to Rome”. Second is about his Uncle Steve (Mom’s brother). – “Know that I’m your sister’s kid…” Also in the song, “The Winner” on his mixtape, he says “Thanks to my uncle steve, my hero who always saved us, I could never give back everything you gave up..”

The confusion of it being about girls/girlfriends, is because when he says “im in love with nebby/jade…” but he’s only talking about the girl that he is in love with at the time period that he is singing about.

Whoever said that the voicemail says “Im sitting here with my son Aubrey” must sit their ass down cause it says “hi Aubrey I’m here sitting with my son having a little talk” And secondly the first verse is about his MOM the second verse about his UNCLE who died last year and the voicemail is his GRANDMOTHER. END OF DISCUSSION

97.4% of fucking people here are mad fucking stupid mad, real talk. Drake’s real name is Aubrey. That is a grandmother talking at the end, can you tell by the tone and the speech?

I believe that’s his grandmother, on his mother’s side. Just because she says “sitting with my son” doesn’t mean it’s Drake’s dad. Could very well be a fucking brother of Drake’s mom aka an uncle to Drake from his mother’s side of the family.

This song is mad real, and that shit made me tear up like a mother fucker when I heard it at the end. Mad deep, and he got mad respect from me now.

This ENTIRE song is about his AUNT. In verse 2 he says & I quote EVEN THOUGH I’M YOUR SISTER’S KID, IT STILL DON’T EXPLAIN THE LOVE THAT U HAD FOR ME. . . The lady on the phone call is also HIS AUNT. she was sitting g with her son/Drake’s cousin. . . Only thing said about dad was that he basically was a deadbeat. & NOTHING ever mentioned about his mom or either grand mother. Take a 2nd listen ppl. this song was dedicated to his moms sister
