Throwback: Mac Miller and the “La La La” Beat Controversy

Mac Millers been receiving quite a bit of attention recently; with the release of his debut album Blue Slide Park, 2 new mixtapes (I Love Life, Thank You & Black Friday), and a series of sold out shows across the US. Without a doubt Mac’s blown up, and he has gained a ton of fans since the days of K.I.D.S. and High Life, and a lot of them may not even know about this. So I bring you guys this weeks throwback; back to September of 2010, when Mac Miller was confronted over a “stolen”  beat from Up North Productions, for his song “La La La”.

According to them, Up North Productions contacted Mac several times about the beat and they just wanted to be credited, which they never were.  “La La La” wasn’t technically on K.I.D.S., it was a bonus track released a month prior to the mixtape. Nevertheless, the song has 8 million views on YouTube now. (At the time the video had about 200,000 views) So, Up  North productions confronted Mac Miller about it in NYC, and it gets intense,  and almost violent. Mac’s whole team comes in to stand up for him and handle the situation, and ultimately Mac just disappears after a bit. Definitely didn’t help Mac’s reputation, especially in NY.

Take a look at the video and see for yourself:

Here’s the video for “La La La”, the same video being discussed in the video above. (Now at 8 million views….damn)

Yea, a terrible look for Mac Miller, but I guess it didn’t affect him much; kids huge now.

And just to throw something else out there, Up North still isn’t credited on the YouTube video…
