Guest Post: Sam Adams Gets a Spot on Conan?

We’ve got a special guest poster today, Ryan Murray, and he’s here to put his two cents in on Sammy Adams getting a spot on Conan. Follow him on twitter @murrmaidman.

The Autotune Whore Himself

Maybe it was a lapse of sanity, or a producers whim, or a favor for a fellow Boston-area “artist”. Whatever the case, Conan O’Brien, star of TBS’ CONAN, has allowed “rapper” Sam Adams to (hold your breath) grace us with his music on his show January 18th.

We all know Sam Adams isn’t a favorite of the YGM crew, but good lord CONAN, this is prime-time TV. You can’t have some untalented frat rapper parading around stage, rapping into his auto tune about getting shitty with his friends for 50 bars. I Hate College was a great party track two years ago, and Blow Up had me going for about 5 minutes. But come on Sammy, its time to let go of the act.

I encourage you to tune in. See for yourself the difference between the real new-comers; Logic, Childish Gambino, Mac Miller, Chiddy Bang, or even Chris Webby; and Sam. Lyrically there is no comparison, he is trash. He just covers it up with catchy production.

YGM, thank you for allowing me to post, it’s been real.

P.S. Conan… Where’s the love for Don Sheen?

Let me clear some things up, I don’t dislike the rapper personally at all.  I just don’t think he deserves the spotlight with all of these much more talented rappers trying to make it in the game right now.  You can’t tell me Sammy Adams is any different than a large amount of college rappers.    I saw a comment mention how he “invented” electro-rap, if that was the case I invented techno.  Electro-rap is just the act of a rapper dropping lazy bars (in Sammy’s case) over a great EDM production.  As much as I may like the beat, I do not enjoy seeing weak verses spit over some of my favorite tunes.  So, getting back to my main point, I am not just trying to hate on Sammy.  I am just trying to make a point about the music industry’s current place through this guest written post.  Thank you Ryan for writing this post last week when we heard the news about the Conan spot and thank you for your time.   This post will be updated with the video of his performance soon.  Check his TV debut below.

I don’t understand why there is so much animosity towards someone who is chasing their dreams. Good for him- if you were in his shoes you would want support too. And it’s called electronic rap- something he came up with…and it seems to be working for him believe it or not. I’ll definitely be tuning in Wednesday to show my full support 🙂

Amen to that every one deserves a chance to chase their dreams. and maybe your sick of the frat boy music but us teens are still living the good life so this song is still relatable.

What kind of crap is this? Sam Adams has put in the work and there’s no reason to hate on someone just trying to get his name out there. I like his music. And it’s not like he’s trying to claim the best lyrical rapper out, he’s just putting out good feeling music that people can enjoy. This post is booty.

Saw him on Conan tonight and thought he preformed very well. Was interested enough to look for more of his music. Don’t know what was up with the shants/ports, guess he can’t afford clothes that fit. But the song ‘Blow Up’ used a sample from a fellow Boston group the Pixies, from the track ‘where is my mind’. I love that jam. Never really heard of the kid before the show and wasn’t to impressed by many of his other jams i could find on you tube. But that song was fun and I could relate to it.

Give the guy a break you internet nerds/turds, your just writing about music on your moms wifi while this guy is out there living the music. Always Psyched to see a local guy doing good. Your haters are all jealous. Do your thing Adams!

This guys got no brain. Sam Adams deserves a spot on TV he’s a great artist, you cant compare him to any of those artists because his style is completely different. Don’t get me wrong their all great artists but their not all the same style.Sammy blends rap with techno and house and rock, hes got his own style. You can’t compare Lil Wayne to Mick Jagger there just completely different artists… Please get away from your keyboard and never come back.

I can’t say that i disagree with u. those artists definitely have different styles, but what i can say is blending rap with house, electro and so on is not innovative in any way and i could name other artists who have went over rock or house beats better in a second. Just because Sammy goes over some nice beats, doesn’t mean that he deserves a spot on tv. His discography is pretty damn small, and he hasn’t proven to me that he really can rap or even that he “has his own style”. There are many artists out there that are similar to him and I honestly don’t believe that Sam is any better than them. just my two cents, and i believe that he did a solid job on the performance. his music is just not for me

Haters going to hate. idk hes way better than chris webby (has he even done anything lately?) and pretty close to mac miller. His songs are catchy and he mixes over dubstep. You can’t beat that. Go to a sam adams concert first and then judge. Pretty damn good in concert and hes a college rapper. Give him a break. Into the wild is a great mix tape (way better than party records). He might not make it big but his music has solid flow

haters going to hate…u serious dog. First of all Chris Webby dropped a new EP on iTunes recently and it the #1 spot on the iTunes chart and #3 overral for that day. Also might I add that I’ve seen sammy live twice while he was on the blow up and let me tell u that his live performance was very weak. His sets for both shows, one in long island, other in nyc were around 20 minutes and he lazily rapped over the tracks playing in the background. It didn’t even seem like the crowd was paying attention to him, they were more their for the atmosphere and girls…just proving how he is not the rapper that id expect to see perform on tv. his flow is nothing special also, its similar on each song.

I’ve seen sam adams live too and my friend with a non-biased view thought he sucked also. You are prolly right that he is lazy during his sets. I just like sam adams more than webby bc he raps more so about college+drinking. I do think webby is good but haven’t listened to his new music (i like raising the bar). I def don’t think he will make it big though but i’m a fan bc of his songs party flow.

Is this a joke? Whoever has seen him live says he is beyond awful and my Boston friends have all said that Boston hates him for being garbage. Sure he’s chasing a dream but so is everyone else so that argument just doesn’t make sense.

Adolf Hitler also chased his dream of exterminating the jews, doesn’t mean you should respect him for it…
